In January, the #Fixit Harrow Network celebrated its one-year anniversary.

Starting out with around 20 members and growing to more than 2,000 by the end of the first year, the Facebook group was started to raise awareness and introduce improvements across the whole of Harrow.

Founder Caren Duhig said she is proud of everything the group has achieved.

A family were given a shock when a small plane crashed into one of their Grove Farm fields in Stanmore.

The aircraft, which had two passengers aboard, was on its way back to Elstree Aerodrome when it landed due to suspected engine failure.

Both the pilot and passenger were unharmed.

Also in January, a longstanding pillar of the community gave over his newsagents after 37 years.

Gulab Gandhi, the face of Canons Park Newsagents in Whitchurch Lane since 1980, said he wanted to relax and so decided to retire.

And gates at the popular Harrow Recreation Ground, in Roxborough Road, were locked at night after concerns were raised about drug use, fly-tipping and nuisance parking.

Harrow Council hoped to deter those responsible for damaging the area’s image and reputation.
