An elderly woman with dementia was given the trip of a lifetime when her Christmas wish came true.

Nina Mary Kelly, 82, from Burford House Nursing Home in Rickmansworth, enjoyed a day of being pampered in London after winning the Westgate Healthcare Make A Wish gift.

Mrs Kelly, who used to work at Harrow Civic Centre, requested a shopping trip to Oxford Street and a chance to see the Christmas lights when she wrote a letter and hung it on the care home wish tree.

On Wednesday, she was taken to John Lewis by care home manager Fortune Mutero, where she was given a full makeover and hand massage at the Clarendon’s desk.

Mrs Kelly then took a taxi ride round the capital to see the many decorations, before visiting Buckingham Palace and enjoying a nice lunch in town.

Joanne Maffey, staff nurse, said: “She was so excited when she came back, though very tired from her busy day out.

“She said she’d had a lovely time and it has been really nice for us because we were looking forward to seeing her with her make up done. She loves shopping and make up.”
