A garden centre has pledged to donate more than 200,000 plants to public spaces after the success of a single campaign.

Squire’s Garden Centre in Stanmore stepped up its offer to beautify several areas across the South East after it donated 19,000 tulip bulbs to Bernays Garden in Harrow.

The gift was made through the garden centres’ “Love Where You Live” campaign whereby Squire donate 10 bulbs for each bag of bulbs bought by customers in September.

Squire's team members, together with volunteers from Bernays Garden Community Group, planted the tulip bulbs at the junction of Old Church Lane and Church Road, on October 8.

Victoria Seco from Bernays Gardens Community Group said: “Once again a very big thank you to Squire’s Garden Centre.

“We are so grateful for their huge donation of tulip bulbs and for their ongoing support. Thank you from us all.”

Sarah Squire, deputy chairman of Squire’s added: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to our ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign, and we are very grateful for the support our family business receives from local people.

“It’s fantastic to be able to give something back to the communities where we are located. Autumn is the best time of year to plant spring flowering bulbs.

“‘Tulip tarda’ is the variety we have donated. It has clusters of beautiful yellow and white fragrant star-shaped flowers. It has won the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and I am sure that it will produce a spectacular display of colour come next springtime.”
