A new school will host an inter-school competition to encourage youngsters into science and maths.

The Avanti House School in Stanmore will host its first annual STEM Fair on July 12 for other schools across the country to take part in.

The purpose of the initiative, first launched by the school in 2017, is to encourage the development of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills in pupils from an earlier age.

Leading up to the event, pupils were given a handbook with deadlines for parts of their projects to be completed and were free to select any topic they wanted to investigate.

In its first year four primary schools from the Avanti Trust entered Year Five pupils to win the Avanti STEM Cup.

For the final on July 12, the best entries were selected to represent their schools and will compete to win the trophy. The overall winner will be announced in due course.
