A MAN was caught driving under the influence on his way home court - where he was convicted of drink driving.

Tomasz Szuba was stopped by police around 1.55pm on October 2 this year, in order for them to carry out random checks.

Once cops stopped the car, they noticed a smell of alcohol coming from the 43-year-old from Galloway Street, Springburn.

He was instructed to provide a specimen of breath which revealed he was over the limit.

Szuba appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to drink driving and while disqualified.

The court heard how the accused was driving home from a court appearance at which he had been convicted of drink driving and disqualified from holding a license.

Immediately after receiving his sentence, Szuba got into his car and decided to go shopping.

His solicitor told the court that his client had been drinking the night before his appearance but had not consumed alcohol since 12am.

It was added that he did not realise that he would still be over the legal drink-driving limit the following day or that his disqualification would come into effect immediately.

Sheriff McKenzie told Szuba that there was no other alternative to a custodial sentence due to his repeat offending.

He was ordered to serve 100 days in prison and will be disqualified from driving for a total of five years.
