THE son of tragic Glasgow woman Janet McQueen has avoided being jailed for assault.

Gordon McQueen, assaulted a man at Glasgow Sheriff Court on May 24, by seizing him by the neck and uttering threats of violence.

The 37-year-old went on to kick a police officer on the body during his abusive tirade.

McQueen, of Soutra Place in Cranhill, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to the attack.

The court heard how McQueen had been going through a difficult time following the death of his mum earlier in the year.

A large scale investigation was launched to find Janet, 58, in October last year after she vanished from her home in Govanhill.

Her family took part in a country wide search to find her and launched a public appeal for information.

Janet’s body was recovered six months later in White Cart Water at Pollok Country Park.

Gordon McQueen’s solicitor said his client he had also suffered the loss of his father, who died of cancer which contributed to his behaviour.

It was added that McQueen had stopped taking illegal substances since the incident and accepted responsibility for his actions on the day.

Sheriff Mary McCrory deferred sentencing on McQueen for a period of three months.
