People in Harrow can hold street parties to celebrate Queen’s 90th birthday free from the usual charges.

On June 12 the nation will join Her Majesty the Queen to celebrate her landmark birthday.

Now Harrow residents can also take part in the celebrations by holding their own street party in honour of the occasion free of charge.

Harrow Council is waiving street closure fees for residents who wish to hold community events to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

If you want to host a party, the deadline to apply for a road closure is May 13.

Cllr Sue Anderson, responsible for community, culture and resident engagement at the council, said: "It’s not often that we get to celebrate events like the Queen’s 90th and we want everyone to be able to join in on this big occasion.

"It is a great reason for us all to come together, make new friends and have a great time. I hope everyone takes up this free opportunity before it’s too late."
