In June the Harrow Times revealed an independent investigation into institutional racism at Harrow Borough Council cost the taxpayer £15,000.

The figure was revealed in a Freedom of Information request into the costs of the review, which was carried out by former police borough commander Dal Babu.

The investigation had been called for by the Independent Labour Group, which claimed it had evidence from council staff who had experienced institutional racism.

Officially the investigation found no evidence of institutional racism but Mr Babu did make recommendations to the council to make sure it had a workforce representative of the Harrow community.

June was also the first time proposals for Pinner Park Farm were revealed by the Harrow Times.

Harrow Council, which owns the 230-acre site, announced it would be consulting the public on proposals to build a small number of properties on the land and create a new country park.

The early proposals proved controversial with people living near the farm who feared the plans would not benefit the community and it could turn it into a “white elephant”.

The Harrow Times also reported on the campaign of mourners who felt the graves of their loved ones were being disrespected.

Harrow families with relatives buried at Carpenders Park Cemetery in Oxhey Lane, launched a petition against turning their part of the site into a lawn cemetery.

The cemetery is run by Brent Borough Council, and in 2007 Harrow Borough Council opened a section of the graveyard for Harrow residents.

Brent said the cemetery a lawn cemetery where commemorative plaques are laid to mark graves and maintain the look of a lawn.
