A feasibility study into the suitably of playing fields for a new school will be completed next month, a government minister has announced.

The statement came after MP for Harrow East Bob Blackman brought the issue of the future of Whitchurch Playing Fields up for debate in Westminster Hall at the Houses of Parliament today.

Minister for schools David Laws MP said during the meeting that the Department for Education is currently carrying out a feasibility study on the site.

He also announced that study will be completed next month and the results will establish whether Avanti House School will be able to relocate to the playing fields.

In January Avanti House, which moved to its temporary home in Stanmore last year, indentified Whitchurch Playing Fields, Stanmore, as a possible new home.

In 2012 Harrow Borough Council's then Labour administration gave its backing to the Whitchurch Consortium's plans to build a new sports complex and leisure facility on the site.

The proposals to develop the fields have been controversial with people living nearby.
