The winners of an inaugural art competition have been announced.

Sixth form students from Harrow submitted artwork to the Whitefriars Art Competition, and the winners were announceda t a prizegiving ceremony on Thursday, June 6, with a crowd of more than 100 people looking on. The three winners - Zak Samak, Rebecca Christe and Miriam Al-bahadly - were given cash prizes by judges Cllr Sue Andersen, professional artist Nogah Engler and design and brand manager for the British Museum Ann Lumley.

Four other works were singled out for commendations, from Laura Spillane, Danesh Jegatheesan, Thaakshajini Vasanthakumaran and Zak Samak.

A further prize of £100 to the school or college with the most entries to the competition, presented by artist Rosalyn Sober, was picked up by Jon Butterworth, Head of Art, on behalf of Nower Hill High School.

Both shortlisted and winning entries are currently on display in a free public exhibition at the Whitefriars Art Gallery in Wealdstone which is open every day until Monday, June 17.
