I am pleased to say that Harrow Borough has become the first in London to offer all its 85,000 homes and flats anti-burglary ultraviolet property marking. This product allows householders to mark valuables in their homes. It is virtually impossible to remove and will help police to identify stolen property.

Once again Harrow is faced with another deliberate effort to undermine our traditions of tolerance, mutual respect and diversity as another demonstration by a far-right group outside Harrow ‘mosque’ is planned for Sunday December 13th.

With increasing evidence that Britain is slowly emerging from the impact of the global recession the International Monetary Fund, and a series of other economic forecasters are arguing that it is too early to withdraw the increases in public spending that are helping to maintain jobs, help businesses and keep families in their homes, as it could choke off the recovery.

Whilst I welcome the decision to reject Dandara’s plan for a 19 storey high ‘skyscraper’ in Harrow town centre I am concerned by comments from Conservative councillors that a different design might be acceptable in the future, and by the continuing lack of a clear plan for residents and developers alike to consider, on the future of Harrow’s town centre and crucially, key so called ‘development’ sites within it.

Climate Change Conference The impact of climate change is already being felt by millions of people across the world including here in Britain. Over the recent Bank Holiday weekend, I attended the World Business Summit on Climate change, to engage with key figures in the private sector and with other Government representatives, on preparations for the forthcoming United Nations Climate Change negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December this year.
