The Clinical Commissioning Group which ceased funding to a respite care centre has asked the local authority to take the lead in securing alternative options.

Herts Valley CCG announced that the money allocated to Nascot Lawn Respite Service would come to an end in May 2018.

It noted parents’ need for respite care but agreed unanimously that funding could not be maintained and suggested that a joint funding venture with Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) was not a viable option.

As parents and those close to Nascot Lawn look ahead to the future and alternative options for their relatives, the CCG has called on HCC to find a possible avenue.

Kathryn Magson, chief executive of Herts Valley CCG, said: “This is now a matter for the council and as the statutory provider, they must now take a clear lead in working with families to determine future provision.

“We hope they will make their decisions in a timely manner in order to avoid continued uncertainty for families.”

Parents have been pleased, given the circumstances, with the reaction from the council, which they say is working with them to find a solution.

Teresa Heritage, responsible for children’s services at HCC, said it would like to reassure families that they will do “whatever practical to give their children the respite care they need”.
