Abseilers took on a brave charity challenge this weekend.

The third annual Snowflake Challenge took place on Saturday and a group of more than 30 abseilers faced the bitter cold to abseil down the tower at St Mary's Church in Watford.

The participants fundraised for Home-Start Watford and the charity is expected to raise more than £3,000.

Abseilers included councillors Mark Watkin and Chris Lloud, Hertfordshire High Sheriff Will Hobhouse and the Watford Observer's own Robert Collins, who headed to the tower after taking part in The Big Imagine Sleepout in aid of charity New Hope.

Participant Darcey Tromans said: "The abseil is such an exciting challenge and I wanted to show my support for a local charity that helps so many children and families."

Meanwhile, a tombola and festive stalls were held in the church hall by pupils from NCS Watford and Queens School, and a choir from Highwood Primary School sang Christmas carols.

Local businesses also got involved, such as law firm VWV and Top Golf who sent staff teams to attempt the abseil.

New-Start Watford scheme manager Emma Power said: "We are so lucky to have such incredible support from our local community enabling us to continue to support families who are facing challenges of their own, thank you everyone who took part."
