People in Watford were invited to the Houses of Parliament in a bid spark their interest in politics.

32 people embarked on the trip to learn more about the role of Parliament on Monday, November 13, which was organised by Watford MP Richard Harrington and funded by Watford Community Housing.

Tasneem Dunbar, who visited for the first time, said: “The day was well organised and the sessions were very informative.

“I particularly enjoyed the tour of the Parliament as the MP’s Assistant shared an interesting walk through the different parliamentary sections which was filled with historical facts and traditions.

“Thank you for a positive experience which created a very patriotic feeling amongst all attendees.”

The trip had been organised as part of UK Parliament Week, which is an annual event that engages people from across the UK with Parliament and empowers them to get involved through events and activities.

The project aimed to increase civic participation of residents living in Watford, build a platform for community activism, enthuse people to get involved in democratic processes and strengthen the dialogue between institutions and their citizens.

Watford CVS Service Manager, Michal Siewniak said: “Our visit to the Houses of Parliament was incredible; intensive intellectually, informative and educational. Our civic adventure enabled us to understand better the role of the Parliament, its functions and learn about the history of this remarkable place.

“I found our trip to be refreshing and inspiring. I truly believe that seeing Parliament in action brought democracy to life.

“Visiting the Houses of Lords & Houses of Commons helped to connect our group with democratic processes and helped us all to see how the Parliament actually works.”
