Hundreds of students at a college celebrated their academic achievements by donning caps and gowns for their graduation ceremony.

Almost 130 students from the West Herts College arrived at Watford Colosseum, in Rickmansworth Road, on Friday, September 15 for its Higher Education Graduation Ceremony.

The Class of 2017 comprised of graduates in courses from an array of sectors, including art and design, business, computing, sport, travel, public services, health, education and care and creative enterprise.

Oliver Nutkins, who graduated with a HND in music, said: “This course was a great challenge, I am excited to have graduated but at the same time I’m really sad that it is all over because I have had such a great experience and met some fantastic people.”

Daisy Barrett, who graduated with a Foundation Degree in Early Years, also spoke highly of her time at college.

She said: “I’m excited for my next adventure but I won’t ever forget my time at West Herts College and I hope to stay in touch with the people I’ve met during my time here.”

Una Pearce is leaving with a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, said: “My best advice is to stick at what you’re doing and you will succeed no matter what.

“The course was tough but I was very determined to graduate. I now know that whatever age you are, you never stop learning.”

College principal Gill Worgan gave the keynote speech during the ceremony and said: “Don’t underestimate what you have achieved, today represents a life changing moment.

“It’s always very special to us whenever our students graduate – we are hugely proud of you, and we wish you every success for the future.

“This is your day, your special occasion, and we are delighted to be sharing it with you.”
