People are being urged to show their “pride” in the town’s biggest outdoor space by voting to make it the country’s favourite park.

Keep Britain Tidy is running the annual Green Flag “People's Choice Awards” – a public online vote to choose which Green Flag award-winning park is the nation’s favourite.

Mayor Dorothy Thornhill believes Cassiobury Park, in Watford, would be a “very worthy winner”.

She said: “We should all be proud to have one of the best parks in the country on our doorstep. With its mix of aristocratic history, children’s activities, natural beauty, modern touches and heritage features, I believe Cassiobury would be a very worthy winner of the title Britain’s Favourite Park. It really does have something for everyone and is enjoyed by thousands of visitors every week.

“Following the £6.6m lottery funded restoration project, there are now even more reasons to visit Cassiobury. Whether you’re taking part in a Parkrun, enjoying a relaxing walk with the dog, having a game of tennis, or listening to live music on our beautifully restored bandstand there’s so much to enjoy.”
