Hundreds of people gathered for an inaugural prayer event at a nature reserve to mark a religious holiday.

Rickmansworth 1Eid was held at the Aquadrome at the end of last month for Eid al-Aha, a huge celebration that takes place marking the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Festival goers were able to enjoy Arabic arts and crafts including henna and calligraphy, as well as an array of halal food and desserts stalls.

There was also live music and activities for children, such as storytelling and face painting.

Imam Jalal Mohabbat, founder of 1Eid said “A special thank you from the organisers and trustees of the Eid Celebration Committee and the 1Eid team is extended to Three Rivers Council, Kelly Bernard, leader of council Sarah Bedford, Iron Aid (delivery partners) and all the volunteers, donors and supporters that made this launch possible.

“We look forward to adding more names of people and organisations to this list in future 1Eid events.”

Leader of Three Rivers District Council, cllr Sara Bedford, who also attended, added: "It was a fantastic morning.

"I was honoured to have been invited to join some of our Muslim residents on this festival day, to hear what they were celebrating and see how little really divides people of different faiths."
