BUSHEY:

The Bushey spring fair and launch of the George Michael Appreciation Society will take place today at St James’s Church. The event is free and there will be lots of Easter eggs to be won. There will be various stalls including raffle, flowers and plants, gifts, community stalls, farmers’ market, beer tent and many others. The event will run from 10.30am until 3pm.

Community Hertsmere will open their new outreach hub in Radlett on April 4. To enable residents to have easy access to the team and to meet staff face to face the new outreach hub will be open on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 1.30pm to 4.30pm at the Radlett Centre in Aldenham Avenue.

Hertsmere residents can now find out the latest news directly from the Hertsmere Chief Inspector Steve O’Keeffe (below) as he has signed up to the social networking site, Twitter. He is tweeting under @HertsmereCI. He will be highlighting police work across Hertsmere, providing details of arrests and operations and will be giving out relevant crime prevention advice.

Watford Observer:

There will be a spring exhibition in the Lucy Kemp Welch Gallery in Bushey Museum this weekend. Part of the St. James’s Spring Fair, this is an art exhibition of works by local artists, with an eclectic and original mix of paintings, ceramics, paper, textiles, photography and print. Come and meet the artists as they demonstrate the skills they use in creating their unique pieces. All artwork will be for sale, commissions undertaken and creative workshop bookings can also be made. It will be open from 10.30am to 3pm on March 25 and 10am to 2pm on March 26.

THE LANGLEY'S:

Little Hay Golf Complex in Bovingdon is holding an Open Day in partnership with Little Hay Golf Club on Saturday, April 8 to showcase its facilities and activities, and to encourage more local people to get involved in the sport of golf. As part of the Dacorum Sports Trust, Little Hay has a commitment to encouraging local families and individuals to improve their health and well-being, and playing golf is an enjoyable way to achieve this, both physically and socially. We would be grateful is you would consider writing an article to raise awareness of this great community event. The complex will open its doors from 10am until 4pm.

The Abbots Langley Gardening Society are holding their Spring Show. It will be held on Saturday in the Henderson Hub, in High Street, Abbots Langley and will be on between 11am and 12.30pm.

THREE RIVERS:

Scouts are having a jumble sale in Rickmansworth. The Batchworth Sea Scouts will be holding their Grand Jumble Sale in their hut in Riverside Drive. It will be held on March 25, between 10.30am and 12.30pm and admission is 40p. Items being sold include clothes, books, furniture, jewellery, toys, linens, bric-a-brac, shoes, garden and household equipment. There will also be a BBQ and refreshments will be available.

To celebrate its 70th anniversary, a choral society will be performing Messiah. Chipperfield Choral Society, which started in 1947 with a small group of musicians, has grown over the last 70 years and now has more than 100 members. To celebrate, it will be performing Messiah at the Great Hall of the Royal Masonic School in Rickmansworth, on April 1. A local theatre group will be staging a show for the Michael Sobell Hospice. The Pastiche Musical Theatre group will be performing Hello, Dolly! to celebrate its 40th production and the hospice’s 40th anniversary. St Mary’s Church is hosting a “Watford Alive” event this Saturday from 4pm until 5.30pm. Live music, life stories, friendship and refreshments are all on offer. Everyone is welcome.

WATFORD:

The Fairtrade Foundation has granted Watford leave to renew its Fairtrade Town status for a further two years. Earlier this year, The Watford Fairtrade Steering Group revealed its plans to promote Fairtrade to more community groups and businesses in the area by taking part in campaigns, including the UK-wide Fairtrade Fortnight at the end of February. 

Shiva Foundation, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire County Council, and the Police Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire will bring together national anti-trafficking experts in a collaborative effort to prevent and address modern slavery in the region, starting with a multi-agency conference in Hertfordshire on March 29. The conference will take place at the Watford Hilton hotel.

On Wednesday March 29, Topgolf Watford is teeing off for charity with a fun filled evening to support employees Michael, Dom and Tom who are running the London Marathon this April to raise money for charity partner Make-A-Wish Foundation. The entertainment venue is hosting a competitive night of games and grub, with prizes at the end for the team and individuals with the highest scores. Commencing at 7pm, each team will be able to enjoy a welcome drink, two games of Topgolf and a food platter feast fries. The event is open to all who fancy a great evening out with friends whilst helping a great cause. The Topgolf charity night is £200 per bay with up to five players per bay. Raffle tickets will also be available on the night for £1 per strip, with all proceeds donated to charity.

Across Mother’s Day weekend, young shoppers can join in with free Kids’ Club activities at the Intu Centre. On Saturday March 25, children can get crafty by making a teapot fridge magnet to gift to mum on her special day. The whole family can celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday as they can battle it out for a hole in one with crazy golf arriving in-centre. Plus, there’s also the chance to make and decorate a card for mum. All activities are free and take place from 11am until 4pm on the lower mall by M&S and Next.

Organisers of several St John Ambulance units in Hertfordshire are appealing for new volunteers to step forward to train as first aiders. The closing date for applications is April 9.

Specific opportunities for adult first aiders exist at units in Berkhamsted, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford, Hitchin, Letchworth, Potters Bar, Rickmansworth, St Albans, Stevenage and Watford. No prior first aid or volunteering experience is required for any of these roles as all necessary training will be given by existing volunteers and trainers at a regular weekly meeting. Volunteers with no first aid experience can expect to attain a reasonable level of proficiency after six to nine months. Following training, the volunteers will all be given the chance to attend events in the local community and provide lifesaving first aid to members of the public. All potential volunteers must be over 18 and will be required to pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

In collaboration with Watford Borough Council, the National Landlords Association (NLA) invites landlords in Watford and the surrounding areas to a free forum on Tuesday, March 28, to learn more about the upcoming tax changes to buy-to-let. The event is free to attend and will take place at Hilton Watford.

The locally-owned signs, graphics and visual communications provider FASTSIGNS Watford, took home three awards at the annual awards ceremony. FASTSIGNS Watford received the Pinnacle Award as the third highest volume centre in the FASTSIGNS UK network and was recognised for the most increased Sales Achievement and Sales Achievement Percentage Growth awards as well.
