Javi Gracia is convinced Watford will have a productive transfer window after holding positive talks with owner Gino Pozzo.

Having secured Premier League football for a fourth successive season with a 14th placed finish, the Hornets will be looking to push on next term.

Adding quality to their squad in the transfer window will, as always, be key to any success Watford enjoy and Gracia is happy with the early indications of progress.

“I have spoken already many times with the owner and I can feel he is ambitious,” Gracia told the club website.

“He is looking to next season. I don’t know what happens with different movements but I am sure the owners will try to improve the level of the squad and try to improve our position in the table.”

Gracia will understand the need to add not only strength but depth to his Watford squad this summer after a season disrupted by fitness issues.

The Spaniard took over in the midst of an injury crisis which scarcely let up between his arrival in January and the end of the campaign.

Despite the struggles to field a consistent starting XI throughout his first few months at Watford, Gracia still managed to secure top flight status.

The 48-year-old nonetheless led Watford on an end of season slump which meant it took them until the penultimate game of the season to secure safety, but still reflects on a positive campaign.

“We arrived at a difficult time for the team, for the club,” he said. “It was one win in the last 10 games and we had 14 players injured.

“We did a good job, getting better results at the beginning. We had better performances than results and achieved the target [of survival] without suffering a lot.”
