Watford are reportedly among a number of Premier League teams looking to sign Fulham captain Tom Cairney this summer.

The Hornets are said to be ready to rival West Ham United, who had an £18 million bid rejected for the midfielder in January, and Newcastle United for the 27-year-old’s services.

Fulham are firmly embroiled in the chase for Championship promotion, sitting third in the table and look assured of a play-off spot at the very least.

Cairney, who has been capped once by Scotland, could well be allowed the leave the Craven Cottage outfit should they fail to secure a return to the top flight for the first time since being relegated in 2014.

Fulham are likely to demand around £20m for Cairney in a summer which could see them shorn of key players such as Ryan Sessegnon and Ryan Federicks if they miss out of promotion.

Cainey has been a key man for the Cottagers this term, finding the net three times in 26 outings for the west London club.

He has scored twice in his last three outings and opened the scoring as Fulham drew 2-2 with QPR on Saturday.
