Etienne Capoue may remain at Vicarage Road amid reports he is a target for former boss Walter Mazzarri at Torino.

Marco Silva has rubbished suggestions the 29-year-old could be on his way to the exit door after he was dropped from the Hornets squad altogether for the first time this season last weekend, despite scoring against Bristol City in his previous game.

Capoue has made only five Premier League starts this season, and that number would likely have been lower had Will Hughes and Nathaniel Chalobah been fit for the whole of the season to date.

"It's not just about one player and it's a club decision," said a defiant Silva. "I don't know if Filippo or Gino have spoken to the press as well.

"The players we want to keep, we can't say 100 per cent, but we want to keep the players we feel are really important to us. We won't sell them.

"I can't say that 25 players will stay. With Capoue we haven't decided anything and if I put a player on the list or not, it doesn't man they will leave or stay.

"If you talk about Capoue, you need to ask me about the others too: [Jose] Holebas, Sebastian [Prodl], Isaac [Success]. If you want to talk about all the others, because it's not only Capoue.

"Sometimes players don't start the game because others in their position are playing well. Sometimes it's the coach's decision, in the first two months everybody understood why he didn't play.

"Two or three weeks ago everybody expected Ben Watson to go. It's my decision, but to repeat, it's not only Capoue."
