Watford were left wondering how they left Selhurst Park empty-handed as two late goals gave Crystal Palace a 2-1 win.

The Hornets led as early as the third minute when Daryl Janmaat headed in Richarlison’s cross and looked to be on their way to all three points.

Tom Cleverley’s red card for two bookable offences gave the Eagles hope late on, but Watford should still have seen the game out.

However, Bakary Sako struck in the 89th minute to level and James McArthur swept in the impressive Wilfried Zaha’s cross to complete the most dramatic of turnarounds.

Here’s how we rated the Hornets in South London.

Heurelho Gomes- 5.5

Harrow Times:

Had very little to do until the Palace leveller and was unlucky to see his double save ricochet off Sako and in.

He should, however, have done better with Wilfried Zaha’s initial shot as he parried straight back into the six yard box.

Adrian Mariappa – 5.5

Tried to get close to Zaha at any given opportunity and his physical approach riled the Palace winger.

Zaha did regularly have the beating off him though and the way in which he provided the openings for both goals was evidence of this.

Sebastian Prödl – 6

Harrow Times:

Also looked to leave a mark on Zaha and coped better than his defensive colleagues with the threat posed by the number 11.

Christian Kabasele – 5

Could have conceded a first half penalty when grappling with Christian Benteke and likewise for a push on the forward in the second.

Daryl Janmaat – 7

Looked keen to take his chance to impress in the absence of the injured Kiko Femenia and marked his start with the early headed opener.

Provided genuine attacking impetus throughout and looked solid at the back when dealing with Zaha.

Tom Cleverley – 5.5

Harrow Times:

Could have no arguments about the red card after two clear bookable offences, but will be disappointed with the second yellow card.

Cleverley lost his composure after miscuing a volley and wildly flew into a challenge he was never going to win. His sending off gave Palace late impetus.

Abdoulaye Doucouré – 6.5

Typically committed in midfield and broke up play well, but did lose the ball cheaply on a number of occasions.

Jose Holebas – 6

Back in the side for the suspended marvin Zeegelaar and acquitted himself well at left-back. His delivery from set-pieces dropped below its usual standard on occasion.

Andre Carrillo – 5

Another game which passed the Peru international by and he created precious little from his wide right berth.

Given the same free role which Will Hughes created, but lacked the elusive quality of the England Under-21 international.

Richarlison – 7.5

A display full of creativity and commitment and it was little surprise to see Richarlison add to his assist tally for the season by laying on the Watford goal.

Went close to doubling the Hornets’ lead on a number of occasions, most notably when being denied by Julian Speroni with a placed effort.

Troy Deeney – 5

Harrow Times:

Given a third straight start and will be wondering how he didn’t score when presented with an open goal from Richarlison’s cross.

The ball did take a slight touch of Scott Dann which complicated matters, but Deeney, who was six yards out, could have reacted quicker to score his first goal from open play this term.

SUBS

Roberto Pereyra – 6

Came on with around 20 minutes to play and continued despite picking up a nasty kick from Patrick Van Aanholt. Some good touches but little end product.

Andre Gray – N/A

Given a matter of minutes to impress.

Kiko Femenia – N/A

Replaced Richarlison who appeared to take a knock to the hip, but was only on the pitch for a short period of time.
