Arsene Wenger could face punishment from the FA after reports claimed the Arsenal boss angrily confronted Neil Swarbrick in the wake of the Gunners’ 2-1 loss to Watford.
The Frenchman was furious after the Hornets were awarded a controversial penalty after a foul by Hector Bellerin on Richarlison – a decision Wenger later described as scandalous.
Wenger is understood to have pursued Swarbrick down the Vicarage Road tunnel after the full-time whistle before entering the referee’s room.
The Football Association are due to review the penalty decision, which allowed Troy Deeney to kick-start the Watford comeback before Tom Cleverley struck an injury-time winner, and Richarlison could face a retrospective ban for diving.
Wenger could also be in hot water should Swarbrick choose to include the post-match incident in his report.
There is no rule in place regarding managers entering the referee’s room, so Swarbrick’s report could prove pivotal in any case against the 67-year-old Arsenal boss.
