Harry Kewell has been removed from his role of head coach of Watford Under-23s.

The former Leeds and Australia midfielder was relieved of his duties earlier today following a dismal season for his young side, with his last game at the helm a 4-1 humbling by Bristol City on Monday night.

Kewell was appointed Under-23 manager in July 2015 but this season has seen his young Hornets win only six of their 24 Professional Development League games, losing 13.

Kewell tweeted his farewell earlier this evening saying: "Regretfully myself and Watford Under-23s have parted ways. Unfortunately results haven't been on my side.

"However, I'm extremely proud that three of my players have made their debut for the first team and five others have been in the squad.

"I'd like to thank Watford for the opportunity and wish the club and my players all the best for the future. I'm looking forward to my next challenge."

Watford have made no announcement over who will replace Kewell as coach.
