Tommie Hoban had plenty to celebrate after returning from injury to make the bench for Blackburn's 1-0 win over Wigan on Saturday.

The Irishman was an unused substitute as his loan side moved out of the Championship bottom three for the first time since early December at the expense of Bristol City, thanks to Marvin Emnes' second-half strike at Ewood Park.

The game marked Hoban's first appearance in a matchday squad since October, due to a serious shoulder injury which ruled him out for four months.

A shock defeat for Steven Berghuis' Feyenood squeezed the gap at the top of Eredivisie back to four points, with the winger hooked by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst after 68 minutes.

Matthias Pogba's first-minute strike was enough to give Sparta Rotterdam a 1-0 win over the league leaders, in a game Berghuis struggled to influence before he was substituted for Dirk Kuyt.

After Malaga manager Marcelo Romero called for Adalberto Penaranda to remain patient and earn his chance in the Anchovies' squad, he was missed out from their 18 for yesterday's 1-0 defeat at Athletic Bilbao.

The Venezuelan striker has played only 148 minutes since joining the club in January, and has not featured since January 21.

Jerome Sinclair played a solitary minute of Birmingham's 3-1 defeat by Leeds on Friday night, replacing Che Adams in the dying moments of the defeat for Gianfranco Zola's side.

It was the first appearance the 20-year-old had made for the Blues since playing the full 90 minutes in their thrashing by QPR on February 18.

Olympiakos chose to leave Colombian loanee Juan Carlos Parades on the bench for their Greek Superleague trip to third-placed PAOK last night.

They may have regretted their decision after two second-half goals saw them beaten 2-0 by the Thessaloniki-based side, but their lead at the top of the division remains seven points.

Mario Suarez was another in danger of getting splinters after sitting out Valencia's 3-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid.

The Spaniard was an unused subsitute for the second game in a row for Salvador Gonzalez's Los Ches.

After almost a month out with injury, Saturday's Willem II game came a little too early for Obbi Oulare, but the striker is expected to return to full training this week.

The Belgian has been doing solo work as he continues his recovery, and should join in with the full team ahead of Sunday's home game with PEC Zwolle.

Defender Uche Agbo played the full 90 minutes as Granada beat Deportivo Alves 2-1 on Wednesday.

But he missed out on the squad altogether as they were downed 1-0 by Leganes on Sunday and dropped to four points from safety in La Liga.
