Watford frontman Stefano Okaka was left frustrated after his goal and assist proved insufficient as rampant Southampton put four past the Hornets on Saturday.

Walter Mazzarri's side scored three for the first time since December against the Saints but still emerged with nothing from the game, and saw their defensive frailties badly exposed by a slick visiting side, with Nathan Redmond often running the show.

After the match, Okaka unsurprisingly highlighted the Hornets' defending in a game he said his side had needed more from.

He said: "It’s very frustrating. We scored three goals at home, and normally that would be enough to win. We lost but wanted to win, so it’s not enough.

"It’s very sad and we need to work on our defending. We need the points, and we needed points from this game - we gave everything and to get nothing from the game is very sad."

Okaka and Troy Deeney linked up well at times against Southampton, combining well for the opener and feeding one another on a number of occasions.

And the Italian striker was left pleased with his emerging on-field relationship with his captain.

"Me and Troy, we have a good relationship and you can see it on the pitch," he said.

"Every time, I tried to find him and vice versa; I gave him the assist for the first goal, he gave me a lot of balls back too. We have to keep working like this because we can do very well in the last part of the season."
