Gavin And Stacey stars James Corden and Mat Horne have beaten funnymen Morecambe and Wise to be named the greatest comedy duo in a new survey.

Horne and Corden, whose BBC Three sketch show was a flop and was even branded a mistake by Corden himself earlier this year, received 16% of votes in a survey of more than 3,000 people by online TV service www.SeeSaw.com.

Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise came a close second with 15% of the vote.

Little Britain's David Walliams and Matt Lucas were third with 12% of votes, while Phoenix Nights' Peter Kay and Paddy McGuinness were voted into fourth place.

Peep Show's David Mitchell and Robert Webb rounded off the top five with 10% of the vote.

Gavin And Stacey also topped the search for the best British comedy catchphrase with Nessa's "What's occurring?" coming in first place, ahead of Only Fools And Horses' Del Boy classic "Lovely Jubbly".

Only Fools And Horses was named the greatest comedy show in the poll, scooping 23% of votes, while second favourite Fawlty Towers received 9% and Gavin And Stacey came third with 7%.

The moment when Del Boy accidentally fell through an open bar hatch in Only Fools And Horses was named the greatest TV comedy moment, with 41% of the vote.

Again it was a battle of old and new with Gavin And Stacey's takeaway curry scene being voted the second greatest TV comedy moment with 11%.
