Liverpool Youth 6 Wealdstone Youth 0

A TWENTY minute disaster period midway through the first half put pay to any dreams of a huge FA Youth Cup giant-killing at Anfield on Tuesday.

In this time Wealdstone shipped four goals and from then on the match as a contest was over. Stones to their credit, bravely regrouped at half time to only concede two additional goals.

It might have been so different had Alex Augustine scored for Wealdstone with the first chance of the game after four minutes, but the Liverpool keeper, Roberts, dived to his left to make a smart save.

Liverpool had started very tentatively but gradually their superior speed and speed of thought began to stretch the Stones defence. Wingers Hamill and Barratt were proving difficult to control and from a run and low cross by the latter Platt scored from close range.

The same player scored again five minutes later with a 20 yard volley after a headed defensive clearance.

Another five minutes and it was three when Guthrie's 25 yard cross shot found the net via the far post, then Noon made it four with a neat hooked goal.

The introduction of Ryan Moore gave Wealdstone more control of the ball up front and halted the ball coming straight back at them, plus Carl Martin in defence was giving a performance that should put his name in contention for a first team start, bearing in mind how many goals they have conceded in recent weeks.

In a similar style to the first goal Holmes scored number five and Platt seized on an error to calmly slot in the sixth.

Wealdstone battled on and Thompson had a couple of chances put Stones on the scoresheet. The travelling Wealdstone supporters on the Kop continued to sing for their side and everyone left fairly contented after an excellent and unusual day out at one of the nation's premier stadiums.

Wealdstone: Swain. Holland, Hicks(Callum Martin 56), Gbio, Allison. Carl Martin, Sharples, Christian, Jimbah(Moore 45), Thompson, Augustine(Green 63).
