Gloom at the top

ALL of the borough's top teams suffered defeats in the Middlesex County Cricket League.

On Saturday, the opener for Harrow, Wasim Aslam, put up a battling 28, but was powerless to stop his side slumping to just 69 all out. Shepherds Bush ran out winners with 224 all out and left Harrow midtable in Division Two.

In the Premier Division, Wembley continued their poor run of form with a defeat away at Hampstead. A swashbuckling 62 from Adrian Green led Wembley to 157 all out but the bowlers could do nothing to stop Hampstead winning by five wickets.

Stanmore's 1st XI were also consigned to a defeat which stops them rising up the table. At home against Finchley, they won the toss and went out to bat first. A valiant effort from the batsmen against strong Finchley bowling gave them a final score of 279 all out. But the opposition hit back and the peerless Peter Sogbodjor batted a score of 123 not out, meaning that Stanmore eventually lost the game and went away with no points.

However, it was not all doom and gloom for the borough this weekend. Harrow and Harrow Town third teams both recorded victories to boost their respective promotion hopes.
