Olympic celebration for Harrow Lawn Tennis Club

Harrow Lawn Tennis Club are hosting a special open day to mark the Olympic torch going through the borough.
The torch relay will be going through Harrow on July 25 and to celebrate this the club are holding an event on Sunday, July 22 between 10am-1pm.
There will be games, exhibition matches, activities and prizes for players of all ages at the day which will be held at the bottom of Garlands Lane off Peterborough Road.
Club member and Harrow resident Holly Mrowiec was chosen to carry the Olympic torch through Southwold this month.
The club has another special link with the Olympics through member Yamile Aldama who is competing for Great Britain in the women’s triple jump.
Aldama won a gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul earlier in the year and hopes to reach her long held goal of claiming an Olympic medal. Her best result at previous Games was fourth at Sydney.
Activities at the open day will include junior Matches, cardio tennis sessions, target tennis for serves, speed gun sessions to test hitting ability and a men’s doubles exhibition match. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the various sessions.
The men’s doubles match is being billed as England versus Poland.
The teams will be made up of Peter Rutland, club coach and top local player, against Slawomir (Slawek) Szeremeta, who was champion of Poland Under-12s.
He has represented Poland in Europe and the United States and has competed in ATP Tournaments. Rutland’s partner will be fellow coach David Emms and Szeremeta’s team-mate is still to be
