Middlesex bounce back to sink Alexandra Park
2:40pm Thursday 5th July 2012 in Local Sport
Middlesex Tamil Sport and Social Club bounced back from their mid-season blip with an impressive ten-wicket win over Alexandra Park.
Park won the toss and elected to bat but were immediately on the back foot against the Middlesex Division One leaders.
The batsmen took a very conservative approach as they looked to set up a defendable score on an extremely good batting track.
The lack of a wicket brought changes to the bowling attack and the switch paid off immediately as Ashok Andrew struck first.
At the other end, skipper Abdul Hamza took a wicket to leave Alexandra Park on 52 for three.
The home team then pushed on and were rewarded as David Devadoss and Kavi Kannathasan went about dismantling the batting line-up.
Devadoss claimed two of the remaining seven wickets whilst Kannathasan claimed the rest for another five-wicket haul.
His brilliant form with the ball has seen him rack up an impressive 24 wickets this season.
Alexandra Park CC were all out for 130 runs in 50.5 overs.
Middlesex Tamil’s opening pair of Kishore Sathasivam and Niro Sritharan looked to finish the run chase in a hurry.
Sathasivam was the first to reach his half-century, as he continued his fine form for his new club.
Sritharan, the club’s top scorer this season, then reached 50 with a powerful six over mid-wicket.
The pair then went on to win the game in just 20.1 overs to seal a dominant display following a blip of back-to-back defeats. The club will face Bessborough this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Under-17 team became the first colts side to play a First Division game.
Middlesex Tamil overcame Stanmore by five runs in a closely-fought contest.
