Strauss expects improvement from England

England captain Andrew Strauss insists there is still room for improvement despite firing a brilliant century to secure a 2-1 one-day series win over Bangladesh.

The Middlesex batsman was in top form as he struck 154 in a superb partnership of 250 with Jonathan Trott. Their innings helped England score 347 for seven at Edgbaston and was a much-needed response after their shock defeat to Bangladesh on Saturday.

It was always likely to prove too much for the tourists to recover on Monday and Ravi Bopara took four for 48 as they were dismissed for 203.

Strauss said: "You can still improve. All of us are trying to. We're still making a lot of errors and are not consistent enough yet. But it's exciting to be part of this squad.

"It was better than Bristol certainly. It was a bit of a tricky toss to lose because we weren't certain of how it was going to play, so to get 346 was an outstanding effort with the bat.

"We ask the players to go and get 100s and myself and Trotty were able to do that.

"Then we got early wickets and Bangladesh were never in the game after that. I'm delighted to have won the series."

His knock represented a personal record and demonstrated his improvement in the short form of the game. The 33-year-old skipper can now turn his attention to the Test series with Pakistan which begins at the end of this month.

Strauss added: "I've changed my game a little and I am trying to be a bit more positive."

"I feel very comfortable with my game at the moment and when you're confident you're able to play some more expansive shots.

"I feel like I've hit the ball really well throughout these one-dayers and got a few 50s, I just haven't gone and got a big score - so it was nice to put that right. It was one of those days when things just went my way."
