Wealdstone have boosted their promotion hopes for the new season after signing former striker Peter Dean.

The versatile attacker has moved from rivals Hendon to Grosvenor Vale after leaving the Stones three years ago. Dean made an impact in his first spell with Wealdstone scoring 18 goals in 41 appearances for the club. Dean moved to Bishop's Stortford in 2007 before enjoying a creative midfield role at Hendon.

Stones boss Gordon Bartlett said: "Peter has gained three years valuable experience playing at this level and above and his quality gives us added adaptability in forward areas.

"He's a great athlete, with a clever footballing brain and also injects a bit of extra pace into the side and he has also convinced me he has the hunger we are looking for this season."

Dean's arrival came just days after the club swooped for former Watford striker Scott Fitzgerald. The 31-year-old prolific goalscorer has moved to the Stones from Hayes and Yeading United.

Fitzgerald started his career with Northwood Town before moving to the Hornets. His professional career also included spells with Brentford, Leyton Orient and Walsall.

Bartlett added: "I have been looking for a player of his type for some time and Scott has the ideal experience and attitude to compliment our young squad who just missed out on the play-offs in the last two seasons.

"Now Hayes have gone full time in the Conference, it didn't fit in with Scott's day job and I jumped at the opportunity at signing a proven goalscorer. The recent additions to our squad sends out a strong message that I want to put pressure on everyone at the club. Nearly achieving over the last couple of years has been encouraging, but it is not good enough and I am fed up with giving reasons and excuses."

Wealdstone have also signed utility player Jon Douglas from Zamaretto Premier side Oxford City.
