Stones held at Canvey Island

Wealdstone slipped to eighth in the Ryman Premier after drawing 1-1 at Canvey Island on Saturday.

The Stones were denied the lead in the first half when an effort by Callum Martin was ruled out for offside.

But the visitors went in front five minutes into the second half when Ryan Ashe played in Martin for a cool finish.

A Canvey Island defender was sent off during the second half but they still managed to find an equaliser from the spot. Alan Massey gave away a penalty and the first effort was saved by returning goalkeeper Sean Thomas. The referee ruled Thomas had come off his line and the second penalty was tucked away for a share of the spoils.

Wealdstone travel to Carshalton Athletic on Tuesday before a League Cup match against Tonbridge on Thursday.
