Wealdstone were beaten 3-2 at home to Hemel Hempstead in a competitive friendly on Saturday.
The Stones fell behind after just five minutes when a deflected effort caught them by surprise. They suffered another blow when in-form striker Ben Alexander was forced off the field with a knee injury.
Seam Thomas came on in goal for the second half and the Wealdstone goalkeeper was forced into immediate action as he pushed away Paul Edgeworth's penalty.
But they equalised when Stephen Hughes beat three players and rifled an effort home. Almost immediately the hosts conceded a soft header and were back chasing the game.
With 16 minutes remaining they equalised for the second time in the match as Ryan Ashe struck a fine 20-yard shot from Nick Salapatas' cross.
There was still time for the visitors to pinch the winner amid controversy as Salapatas appeared to be fouled in the build-up.
