Wealdstone are in talks to extend Jonathan North's stay at the club and boss Bobby Wilkinson has also praised the impact of Jerome Okimo and Danny Green after the duo penned new deals at Grosvenor Vale last week.

Okimo returned to the Ruislip-based club last summer for his second spell with the Stones, while Green, who has also extended his deal until the end of the 2018/19 season, is in his second campaign with the National League South side.

Both players have been in fine form for the Stones this season, with Okimo’s versatility proving to be useful to manager Wilkinson, while Green has scored 13 goals in all competitions this campaign from midfield.

As a result, Wilkinson believes both players fully deserved new contracts, while also revealing that the club are in talks with long-term goalkeeper North about extending his deal at the club.

He said: “Everyone knows I made Jerome captain when I came in. He’s a cool, calm customer and a fantastic player.

"When I came in, Danny Green didn’t start the first couple of games and his attitude and the way he has played means he is fully deserving of a new contract.

"On his day, he is a wonderful player to watch. He’s one of the hardest trainers and they both deserve their contracts."

Wilkinson continued: “There are another three or four who are not far away from earning their new contracts for next year. But we want everyone to have a little boost and think ‘I want a new contract’. We are building for the future here as well and those two at this moment, deserve theirs but there will be another one or two round the corner.

“I’m in discussions with Jonathan North, but we are putting that on hold until after the Trophy. That’s good positive news for everybody at the football club. We are still building here and there’s a long way to go, but I’m just so proud of what we are achieving in our first year.”

The Stones have been busy off the pitch once again this week as well, bringing in young full-back Jack Sheppard on loan from Championship side Reading, with the youngster making his debut in the 1-0 defeat against Havant and Waterloovile last night.

Sheppard, who has represented Scotland at youth level, spent time on loan at Dagenham and Redbridge last season and Wilkinson believes the young full-back will provide valuable competition for places at the back.

He said: “He brings a lot of power. He gets goals and is a fantastic player. But most importantly is a great lad and he will fit right into what we are doing here. I appreciate Reading for letting us have such a good football player as well.

“Hopefully, he will bring a little bit of a calmness at right-back because we have had to chop and change a bit there at times in the last month or so. It’s a great addition and hopefully, he can get a bit of experience for his own career as well.”
