Matt Wallace fired a six-under-par 66 to finish six shots off the lead after completing his delayed second round at the Dubai Desert Classic this morning.

The Moor Park professional had been within five of the lead at eight-under for the tournament when play was suspended due to fog delaying the start of play and subsequent darkness yesterday.

The 27-year-old was to pick up one further shot in the eight holes he had left to play, but a second round 64 saw Rory McIlroy finish the second round two shots clear of the field on 15-under.

The Pinner-based professional was in good shape at five-under for the day through 10 holes when play was stopped for the day, but after making a par, par start following the resumption of his round he was to drop his only shot with a four at the par three fourth.

That was retrieved with a birdie three at the sixth and he was to pick up one further shot with another three at the ninth.

Wallace had already begun his third round at the time of writing and was even-par through three holes, leaving him in a share of 25th place on nine-under.
