While the Romans are usually known for their ruthless efficiency, there was little of that from Bath City at Twerton Park on Saturday as captain Darren Jones saw red only five minutes into their goalless stalemate with Wealdstone.

The Stones are now unbeaten in four games but would've fancied racking up a third league win in a row once Jones was given his marching orders for hacking down clean-through Danny Green so early in the game.

But they lost their numerical advantage when Ryan Sellers later followed him down the tunnel for two bookings, and could not break down the hosts fortifications.

Their best chance had come and gone by then, as Jack Batten's goal-line clearance prevented Matty Whichelow opening the scoring 14 minutes in.

Manager Bobby Wilkinson recalled Abobaker Eisa and Ciaron Brown at the expense of Alan O'Brien and Josh Hill, but both were passengers for the game's most notable moment in the opening minutes.

Green raced on to a long ball over the top and with only Luke Southwood to beat, was brought down on the edge of the box by Jones, who was given a straight red card by referee Lee Brennan.

The emphasis of the game immediately switched, leaving Wealdstone on the front foot and within inches of the opener soon after.

Ricky Wellard beat Jack Compton on the Stones left and found Whichelow in the middle, but Batten covered well to head off the line when his looping header beat Southwood.

Nat Jarvis nearly embarrassed Wilkinson's men before the break when somehow heading Compton's cross wide after losing his marker.

But the Stones had more excuse for any further Bath opportunities when Sellers was sent off 12 minutes into the second period, for a clumsy challenge on Andy Watkins.

Nick McCootie could have put Bath in front from Anthony Straker's delivery but headed wide, but the game never threatened to open up despite the extra space for both sides.

Green could have sealed a rare three points in Somerset late on, only for Southwood to tip his free-kick over the bar in stoppage time.
