Wealdstone bounced back from their midweek defeat at St Albans with a 2-2 draw at Gloucester City on Saturday, but were forced to settle for a point after Robbie Cundy's late header.

The Stones twice led in Evesham, the new home of the Tigers, with Elliot Benyon on target with a precise lob shortly before half-time.

More of the poor defending which has dogged Wealdstone's early performances allowed the hosts to level, however, and Keiran Thomas levelled up minutes into the second period.

Benyon doubled his money from Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick's cross but with the visitors heading for three points, Robbie Cundy rose highest to head home a corner with five minutes remaining and earn Gloucester a share of the spoils.

Long ball was on show for much of the game from both sides, but it mattered little for the Stones faithful, as they twice smelt the sweet scent of victory before being pegged back on both occasions.

Gordon Bartlett named an unchanged side to the one beaten at St Albans last Tuesday, but on a narrow pitch and against a swirling wind found lone-striker Benyon often isolated, despite his brace.

Abobaker Eisa forged the opening chance with a well-struck free-kick which was cleared for a corner.

A game of few clear opportunities nearly found a first goal when Benyon was played in but delayed shooting, allowing home goalkeeper Alex Harris the opportunity to clear.

He would make amends with his next effort. Josh Hill provided a long ball over the top which the former Bristol City forward took in his stride, before slotting home in composed fashion.

It was job done at the break for the visitors, but the smile was wiped off their collective faces moments after half-time when Thomas found a gap in a worryingly pourous backline to shoot past North.

The conditions suited second-half substitute and Wealdstone targetman Dan Fitchett well - and he was on hand to provide the flick-on which would put the Stones back in front.

His header found Hippolyte-Patrick out wide, and a low cross was lashed home by Benyon with 20 minutes to play.

Manager Bartlett has already made his feelings plainly clear about the Stones' lapses in defence, and he would have been seething with the way they threw away two points in the dying minutes.

Cundy rose unmarked to head home a corner from the hosts with less than five minutes left on the clock, and earn the hosts a share of the spoils.

The Stones take on Havant and Waterlooville at Grosvenor Vale tonight - and the Harrow Times will be there to cover it.
