Wealdstone defender Ciaron Brown has been taken on trial with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, the Stones have confirmed.

Brown only joined the club from Bedfont Sports last summer, after impressing in a trial game, but now the 20-year-old could be on his way to the big time after being scouted by the Owls.

Brown will spend part of this week at the club's South Yorkshire training base under the eye of boss Carlos Carvahal, and could be the first player to leave Grosvenor Vale for the Football League since Tom Pett and Jerome Okimo departed for Stevenage in 2014.

As Brown is under contract for next season, any transfer to Wednesday would command a fee for his services.

Stones manager Gordon Bartlett said: "We have a great pedigree at Wealdstone of bringing young players on and moving them up to the pro ranks and Ciaron is more than capable of making the step up having made consistent progress.

"I’m sure that he will do well in whatever the future holds and we will never hold a player back."
