Wealdstone kept their stunning recovery from mid-table mediocrity up with a 2-1 win at Bath City, to stretch their unbeaten run in the National League South to 11 games.

The Stones faced a tough test against the Romans, who are enjoying a resurgence themselves, but went ahead through a superb curling effort from Danny Green.

Chas Hemmings equalised on the stroke of half-time, but with 20 minutes to go Joe White was brought down in the box, and dusted himself down before dispatching the resulting penalty.

With six games to go, the nine-point gap to the play-offs looks a gulf just a little too big for Gordon Bartlett's men to bridge, but a strong second half to the season is increasingly changing the understandably negative feeling around Grosvenor Vale.

Ciaron Brown slotted straight back into the defence after missing last Monday's draw with Concord Rangers, replacing the injured Tom Hamblin and allowing Eddie Oshodi to revert to a more central position.

New signing Dan Fitchett, who arrived on deadline day from Sutton United, was also given a first start alongside White in attack.

Bristol City loanee Shawn McCoulsky gave Jonathan North a scare inside seven minutes but the Wealdstone stopper was equal to his fierce volley from a corner.

That was the only chance the opening half hour would present - and Fitchett was next to be denied, turning Jack Batten before Max O'Leary in the City goal turned away his goalbound effort.

Danny Green put the Stones ahead with a second attack in quick succession - and in truth, the most engaging period of the game - when his own corner was headed back to him, and his well-struck shot nestled in the far corner.

Bath aren't named the Romans for nothing and sought revenge through Nick McCootie, but he fired over inside the box.

With the last kick of the half, Bartlett's team talk was torn up when Hemmings latched onto a long free-kick to poke in an equaliser, despite the best efforts of Wes Parker on the line.

A fiery second half was exemplified by early bookings for Frankie Artus and Aryan Tajkabhsh - playing after his midweek red card had been overturned - with the former lucky to escape an early bath following another late challenge on Sam Cox.

Another foul would give Wealdstone the chance to re-take the lead, when White was bunled over inside the box and referee Ian Rathbone pointed to the spot.

Against a goalkeeper who has made a name for his penalty-saving abilities this season, White was confident in sending O'Leary the wrong way and netting his fifth goal in six games.

Chances were hard to come by in the final 20 minutes, but that suited the Stones just fine - and they came closest to extending their lead when Green was played in by Whichelow before planting his shot just wide.

Wealdstone: North; Brown, Oshodi, Parker, Sellers; Wellard, Green, Cox, Tajbakhsh (Whichelow 66); White (Godfrey 90), Fitchett (Benyon 87).

Not used: Goulding, McGleish.
