Wealdstone have added experience to their squad for next season after securing the services of defender Eddie Oshodi.

The 24-year-old former Watford trainee signed for the Stones less than 18 months after he announced he was quitting football.

Oshodi, who appeared briefly for National League South rivals Hemel Hempstead Town and St Albans City last campaign, has represented England at Under-16 and U-17 level, as well as making three appearances for his country’s C team.

The defender played against Wealdstone for St Albans in a 1-1 draw back in April.

The Stones’ latest acquisition was part of the England U-17 squad, alongside the likes of Jack Wilshere and Jonjo Shelvey, which went to the 2009 European U-17 Championships.

After being released by the Hornets in 2011 – having made just one first-team appearance – Oshodi spent time at Dagenham & Redbridge and Rushden & Diamonds before moving to Forest Green Rovers in 2011 where he spent four seasons.

The defender, who made 117 appearances for Rovers scoring five goals, was made their captain in August 2012 at the age of just 20.

In 2014 he had he had a trial at Brentford having worked with manager Mark Warburton in Watford’s youth system and was previously linked with a move to Millwall.

Wealdstone will hope that Oshodi’s experience will help strengthen a defence which leaked 64 goals last campaign, the joint ninth most in the league.

Meanwhile the club have announced the appointment of a new commercial manager this week.

Pinner resident Kevin Tye, who has held various senior client facing positions for IBM for over 14 years, will start the role in August.

The club’s director Peter Worby said: “I knew Kevin as a teenager and I’m pleased to have recruited him.

“He is a self-starter who brings a ‘can do’ attitude to the job. He is also known to both Roger Slater and Dave Hooper. I welcome him to the club.”

Wealdstone finished the 2015/16 campaign in 13th place, 11 points off the play-off places and six clear of the relegation zone.
