New signing Matty Harriott introduced himself to Wealdstone supporters in the ideal fashion by grabbing a brace in Saturday’s 3-2 win over league leaders Ebbsfleet United, extending the Stones' winning run to seven matches.

Gordon Bartlett's side are now unbeaten in 13 matches in all competitions, a run stretching back to August 31, and have won four of their last seven National League South fixtures to move clear of the relegation zone in 15th.

The clash at Stonebridge Road was only two minutes old when Stones grabbed a shock opener against a side which had only lost once at home.

Newly signed from rivals Hemel Hempstead Town, Harriott scored with his first touch after Fleet failed to clear their lines. The ball sat up for the midfielder on the edge of the area and the former Northampton Town man lashed a superb effort past Brandon Hall leaving the bewildered keeper helpless.

Stones again seized the initiative when Bradley Hudson-Odoi moved clear soon after but had the ball whipped away from him just as Jefferson Louis moved in for kill.

Fleet gradually settled and passed the ball well and Stones started to get hemmed in their own half.

The home side were incensed when they had a goal disallowed but soon equalised when Danny Haynes glanced a header past Jonathan North and into the top corner from a Joe Howe cross.

The Stones’ defence was now under pressure as Fleet looked to build on their goal.

And the hosts went close when Matt Fish found John-Paul Kissock whose strike went just wide, while Lewis and Kissock sent shots wide of the mark and a Kedwell effort forced North to claw away for a corner.

United were looking to push on for a second but it was the visitors that re-took the lead ahead of the break.

The in-form Hudson-Odoi got behind the Fleet defence to go one-on-one with Hall who did well to block.

But Hudson-Odoi was quickly back in the thick of the action and when his strike ran loose, Louis squared to the far post where Harriott added a second goal to his dream debut.

A few minutes into the second period and Stones’ good work was quickly undone. After a let off when a long range effort crashed off North’s post, Matt Godden headed home to make it 2-2.

The anticipated onslaught arrived as Ebbsfleet sensed a turnaround and pressed hard to take the lead for the first time in the contest.

But Wealdstone kept probing and their tireless work eventually paid off.

The winner arrived when Shaun Lucien got the better of Fish on the byline and crossed for Louis, perfectly placed at the far post, to sweep home .

The home side appeared shell-shocked and failed to summon up sufficient threat to pull the game back again even with six minutes of added time.

Stones held out for a magnificent victory and in the process moved up two priceless places in the table with confidence levels on a high for next week’s showpiece FA Cup tie at home to League One Colchester United.
