Harrow's Jude Bright-Davies hopes he is back to his best after winning triple jump gold at the Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games.

Bright-Davies joined 1,600 other competitors in Manchester over the weekend for the UK’s largest multi-sport event for elite level, school-age athletes.

And the Claremont High School Academy pupil jumped 14.27 metres to claim his title.

Victory comes hot on the heels of registering a new personal best 14.62m jump at the England Athletics Championships last month, finally putting to bed the injury woes that saw the 16-year-old fail to compete for almost three months this year.

And Bright-Davies said: “Winning a gold medal means a lot to me, because I’ve had quite a rough season.

“I’ve had injuries that have kept me out for a while so to come back and win was amazing.

“The competition started off ok, it was an alright jump but I was behind the board.

“After I got into my rhythm, I started jumping far. It was alright because I got a new PB at Bedford, but I’m still happy.”

The Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games, which is supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, featured 12 different sports across four days.

Since the Games’ inception in 2006, 15,950 young athletes have now competed at the event with a number of alumni going on to reach the very pinnacle of their sport.

And though emulating British 100m and 200m record holder Dina Asher-Smith is on his agenda, for now Bright-Davies is focused on returning next season to defend his title and gain invaluable experience of a multi-sport competition.

“The Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games means something to me because it allows us to look at other sports and be part of a team,” added the Thames Valley Harrier.

“It’s almost like an Olympic environment because we get to see other people compete.

“Seeing how Dina Asher-Smith won here and then hearing her speak at the opening ceremony has inspired me to want to go on and do it. If they can do it, then it’s possible for anyone.”

The Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games is supported by a range of partners including the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Sport England, Youth Sport Trust, Department of Health and British Paralympic Association. The Games were held in venues across Manchester from 3-6 September 2015. Visit www.2015schoolgames.com for more information.
