Bessborough suffered another heavy defeat on Saturday, going down by 134 runs away to Winchmore Hill in the Middlesex County Cricket League.

The hosts put up an imposing target of 268 for six before declaring after 48 overs.

And the Bessborough innings began encouragingly as the in-form Kushal Patel (52) and William Grogan (12) put on 56 for the first wicket.

However, the rest of the side were no match for Winchmore Hill’s James Geohegan (five for 23) and Danny Barker (three for 23) and they were removed for just 134.

Defeat means Bessborough slip to second bottom in the league standings ahead of Saturday’s home tussle with third-place Harrow Town.

The Seconds were able to clinch a winning draw against Harrow at Headstone Manor in a basement dweller’s battle.

Harrow posted a season’s best total of 216 for eight before declaring after 52 overs, despite Nitin Modha’s third five-for of the season.

In reply, Bessborough made a horrible start with the bat as Adil Parker (3) and Vidoosha Jayawardena (1) fell early.

Tharshan Kanagara (88) and Phil Bush (34) then rekindled hopes of victory before the home side eventually came up short with 205 for eight.

The Thirds lost by three wickets away to Twickenham Fifths in Division Two of the Middlesex 1987 League.

Batting first, Bessborough started brightly but fell away and collapsed to close on 179 all out.

In reply, Twickenham made little fuss of hitting 180 for seven to win.
