A brace from Jefferson Louis helped propel Wealdstone into 11th place in the Conference South with a 3-1 win over St Albans City.

The former Hendon striker, who endured a tough start to life at Grosvenor Vale, is now flourishing and added to his goal tally with his third and fourth goals for the club. Scott Davies got the killer third, with Louis providing the assist.

Gordon Bartlett had to bring in a replacement goalkeeper with regular stopper Jonathan North unavailable. In stepped former Southend United stopper Luke Chambers, who pulled off four excellent saves at crucial times.

Wealdstone wasted no time in setting about their hosts and went in front after just two minutes. A corner from the right found Louis in space 20 yards out and the experienced striker controlled well before firing beyond City stopper Joe Welch.

Former Barnet striker Jamal Lowe had the hosts’ best chance after half an hour, rifling against the top of the post, much to the relief of Chambers.

Jonny Wright was then unlucky not to add a second for the Stones, shooting narrowly over, before Davies came close to scrambling a second prior to half time.

Nine minutes into the second half Wealdstone did extend their advantage, with Louis demonstrating his combination of nous and strength to turn his marker and lash home.

But the two-goal cushion lasted just five minutes. Saints got a consolation their attacking efforts deserved when John Frendo stretched to poke the ball past Chambers to halve the deficit.

Wealdstone were now suddenly under real pressure for the first time in the match but held out with their defence well marshalled, with Wes Parker and Tom Hamblin holding firm.

Chambers did save Stones again with another super effort but it was the away side that wrapped up the points with a third goal in the 86th minute.

Louis again galloped clear and looking up, rolled the ball to an onrushing Davies to drill home the killer third.
