Harrow Borough chairman Peter Rogers says he and manager Dave Anderson came to the same conclusion after Anderson stepped down and has already received a number of applications for the job.

Anderson, 52, decided to step back from his role as manager following discussions on Monday evening, with the former AFC Wimbledon boss' decision announced this morning.

The former goalkeeper had been Boro boss for three-and-a-half years after joining from Slough Town in June 2011.

He will however remain at the helm until his successor is found, a process he will be part of.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, Rogers said: "We talk a lot but very rarely after matches because neither of us really feel it's the time. I was not surprised at all when we spoke on Monday and we had both kind of come to the same conclusion.

"Dave is a personal friend and I have known him for many years with Hendon, St Albans, Wimbledon and many other clubs. It is disappointing for him to go but he will be looking after the side until we make an appointment and assisting with the process of finding his successor.

"I expect I will still drink with him in the future," added Rogers.

Thoughts inevitably turn to the future now and the recruitment process has begun in earnest. Rogers said: "I am naturally quite slow in things like this but we need to do the job properly and that means drawing up a shortlist and interviewing a couple of people. That will inevitably take a week or so and knowing me, longer.

"It is not like we have even got anybody in mind to be honest. We have had a number of applications already today and fortunately there is a board meeting tonight so I can update my fellow directors tonight.

Rogers concluded: "It has been a bit of a struggle for him really. Last season we thought we had worked through the hard times but it has not really worked out this season.

"No-one could have worked harder than Dave; it can happen sometimes and Dave and I both felt we needed a change and so he stepped back. It is probably for the best."
