Harrow Borough secured a superb FA Cup win on Saturday after they beat VCD Athletic 4-0.

Three goals in an eight-minute spell around half-time gave Harrow a comfortable passage through to the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round for the first time under Dave Anderson’s management.

Their reward is a home tie against Waltham Abbey on October 11.

From the start Harrow were looking to keep the ball on the deck and Ben Long’s early dummy allowed Daniel May to put over a cross that was just too high for Lewis Driver. The Vickers’ Peter Smith was the first to have an effort for the hosts, a swerving strike saved by Charlie Horlock. But Boro went ahead after 20 minutes as Driver shot and keeper Nick Blue fumbled it over the line.

The second goal came in the 43rd minute, Long’s fierce effort was blocked but Driver won the ball off the blocking defender and finished well.

Boro began the second half emphatically with a third goal in the 46th minute. The pressing of the home defence was a constant feature, and Driver forced Elliott Cox into a suicidal pass across his own goalmouth, too far away for Blue, and Marc Charles-Smith shot it home off the post.

The game was finished as a contest when Harrow scored their fourth in the 51st minute as Long met Steve Butterworth’s delivery with a fierce volley that flew into the top corner. After that the Vickers played on and had many chances but failed to net any goals.

Last night's game was a different story as Boro lost 2-1 to Bognor Regis Town in a vital Ryman Premier Division game at Earlsmead. Bognor scored an immediate goal in the third minute as Ollie Pearce lashed a fierce 20-yarder across Horlock. Harrow got the equaliser their play deserved after 27 minutes as a cross to the near post meant Charles-Smith spun and hit a low shot, with Driver applying the finishing touch.

In the 67th minute, Harrow began breaking into the visiting half but Butterworth was called offside and Bognor took their free-kick quickly.

The Harrow defence was in disarray and a cross came over Alex Parsons and got in between Daniel May and Francis Otira to head home.

The rest of the match saw chances from both teams being created, but the final score ended 2-1.

Boro travel to Peacehaven & Telscombe this weekend.
