The winning goal came midway through the first half when Shaun Lucien’s cross was headed home by Michael Peacock.
Dave Anderson’s side had a fortunate escape when Frazier Shaw’s strike rebounded off the inside of the post.
The visitors should have doubled their lead at the start of the second half when Simeon Akinola’s effort hit the side netting.
Boro’s victory leaves them 14th in the table with two wins from their opening four games.
The Reds host newly-promoted Witham Town at Earlsmead on Saturday before travelling to Hendon on Bank Holiday Monday.
