Harrow Town selected as NatWest CricketForce showcase club

Harrow Town have been selected by the England and Wales Cricket Board as this year’s NatWest CricketForce showcase club this year.

The club are taking part in the initiative next month which is aimed at rejuvenating local cricket clubs and giving volunteers the chance to get involved.

Harrow Town, based in Rayners Lane, expect more than 200 volunteers including members of England’s men and women team along with Middlesex players to help with projects around the ground between Friday, April 5 and Sunday, April 7. Mike Gatting, Angus Fraser and Mark Ramprakash will also attend the weekend.

Club captain Gihan Herath said: “NatWest Cricket Force will enable much needed work to take place at clubs across the county ensuring the 2013 season gets off to the best possible start.

“All players start their cricket careers at local clubs and it is crucial that we support the game’s development.

“Good facilities and a fun environment can be the difference between youngsters staying with cricket or not and NatWest Cricket Force helps make clubs a real focus for community sports activities and volunteering opportunities.”

The ECB’s Cricket Factory will also be there on the day to help keep youngsters entertained and cricket coaches will be on hand to give young cricketers some useful tips ahead of the new season. For more information on how to get involved email cricketforce2013@harrowtowncc.co.uk.
